Summary
HomeRow Typing Tutor works entirely on your PC. It does not connect to the internet, has no accounts, no ads and no analytics, and it does not send any information to us or to anyone else.
What the app stores, and where
The app saves one file, progress.json, in your Windows user profile (%APPDATA%\HomeRow Typing Tutor\; when installed from the Microsoft Store, Windows keeps it in the app's private package folder). It contains:
- Learner profiles: the name you type for each learner (it can be a nickname) and whether kids mode is on.
- Settings: whether the on-screen keyboard and finger hints are shown.
- Results: for each finished lesson or speed test, the date and time, words per minute, accuracy, number of errors, duration, stars earned and the keys that needed practice.
- Per-key counts: how many times each key was typed correctly or incorrectly.
- Practice time: the total time spent in lessons and tests.
The app does not record the text you type outside its lessons and tests. It does not record keystrokes in other apps, and it does not use the camera, microphone, location or contacts.
If the progress file can't be read (for example, after a disk error), the app renames it to progress.unreadable-<date>.json in the same folder and starts a fresh file, so nothing is silently deleted.
What is shared
Nothing. The app contains no networking code, so no information leaves your PC. We never receive your data.
Children
HomeRow has a kids mode and may be used by children. Because the app collects nothing and sends nothing, no personal information about a child is ever collected by us. A parent or guardian can view, change or delete each learner's data at any time (see below).
Your choices and deleting data
- Remove a learner: Profiles & Settings → select the learner → Remove.
- Reset progress: Profiles & Settings → Reset this learner's progress.
- Delete everything: uninstall the app. Windows removes the app's package data. If you ran an unpackaged copy, also delete the
HomeRow Typing Tutorfolder in%APPDATA%.
Changes
If a future version changes what is stored, we'll update this policy and the effective date above, and describe the change in the Store's "What's new" notes.
